NEW WEBSITE COMING SOON! – REGISTER ONLINE! National Spring Clean Welcome to the National Spring Clean Campaign National Spring Clean is Ireland’s most popular and most recognised anti-litter initiative. Now in its ninth year, the campaign encourages every sector of society to actively participate and take responsibility for litter, by actually conducting clean-ups in their own local environment. The National Spring Clean is traditionally run throughout the ‘Spring’ month of April to kick start the National consciousness after the winter months. The key objectives for the 2006 campaign were to: · Encourage clean-ups throughout the whole month of April · Galvanise the practices of recycling and re-use where possible · Increase the number of Events and Participants · Promote personal responsibility for litter · Heighten awareness of litter and waste issues There is little doubt that National Spring Clean 2006 achieved the above-mentioned objectives. As well as a 4% increase in the number of events and a 16% increase in the number of volunteers, the campaign enjoyed widespread media coverage and support in every county in Ireland. In summary, · Over 341,005 volunteers participated in some 3594 events nationwide · An estimated 3340 tonnes of litter was collected · 35% of the total amount of waste collected was recycled With eight years behind National Spring Clean, the partnership between An Taisce, Government and our loyal commercial sponsors has proved to be a recipe for great achievement. With continued growth and more involvement with new commercial sponsors we would hope to see major expansion and diversifying into different areas that we can build on over the next few years. However it is the effort and enthusiasm displayed by the volunteers and indeed by Local Authorities that has ensured the campaign’s real triumph. As National Spring Clean has become a fixed date on the school and community groups’ calendar, this partnership can hopefully look forward to an even greater success for many years to come.
